South Australian summers are unforgiving — long, dry, and brutal on a thirsty garden. The good news is you don't need an English cottage palette to have a beautiful outdoor space. With the right plants and a bit of design discipline, your garden can thrive on a fraction of the water.
Start with the bones. Group plants by water need (hydrozoning), use generous mulch beds to lock moisture in, and choose hardscaping — paving, gravel, decorative rocks — to break up planting and reduce the lawn footprint.
Native species like grevillea, kangaroo paw, lomandra and westringia are tough, beautiful, and bring native birds into the yard. Pair them with exposed aggregate paths and a few well-placed feature boulders and you've got a low-maintenance garden built for the climate.
We design and build these gardens end-to-end across North & Upper Spencer Gulf — from concept through to the last plant in the ground.
